General principles of Pharmacology

            Basic

This course covers the general principles of Pharmacology including Pharmacodynamics, Pharmacokinetics, drug delivery systems, toxicity of pharmacological agents and drug interactions.

About The Course

This course has been designed to enable the learner to understand the basic concepts in Pharmacology.  It starts with understanding the meaning of Pharmacology and continues with the lucid and easy to understand explanation of the general concepts of Pharmacology. This course clearly explains the guiding principles of pharmacokinetics – the absorption, distribution, metabolism and elimination of drugs in the body.  Further, you will learn about the molecular interactions between drugs and their targets i.e Pharmacodynamics. This course also covers the topics like different drug delivery systems, factors modifying drug effects, different mechanisms through which the drugs act, toxic effects of drugs and types of drug interactions. Each chapter in the course contains videos and text pages and is followed by quizzes, practice tests and tests in exam mode which will help the learner to assess the understanding of each concept. After studying this course, the learner can very well understand the general mechanisms by which the drug reaches to the site of action and produces the effect in the human body and it will make the leaner ready to understand the detailed pharmacology of individual drugs. This course is intended for individuals admitted to health professional programs (including medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing), for those working or interested in pharmaceutical industry and who seek to improve their knowledge in pharmacology, or for individuals with a general interest in expanding their understanding of this important medical discipline.

Why Take This Course?

Pharmacology means the study of drugs and its effectiveness in various disease states. Before studying the effect of different drugs on various body systems and in different disorders, the learner should have the basic understanding of different mechanisms through which the drug acts and how the drug absorbs from the site of administration to the site of action and how it is eliminated from the body. The learner should also be aware of different type of adverse drug reactions and drug interactions before going into details of individual drugs. This course on 'General principles of Pharmacology' clears these basic concepts of Pharmacology and helps the learner to understand the further study of Pharmacology of different drugs effectively.
